Reaching the Unreachable: YouTube and TikTok's Role in the New Era of Digital Evangelism

Professor Sikora

TikTok and Digital Ministry

Social media is transforming the way people engage with new ideas, and in the 10/40 Window—where access to Christian teaching is often limited—platforms like YouTube and TikTok are breaking barriers like never before. What was once impossible due to censorship, persecution, or lack of resources is now happening in real-time: seekers are watching, questioning, and engaging with the gospel from their smartphones.

One of the biggest drivers of this digital shift is the decreasing cost of mobile data. As internet access becomes more affordable across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, video content is rapidly becoming the most popular way for people to explore faith. Ministries no longer need to rely on printed materials or traditional outreach alone—now, a short, well-produced video can spark curiosity, answer deep questions, and even create a path toward discipleship.

This transformation is already impacting millions. The Central Asian team, for example, has seen an astonishing 8,659,081 video views, showing the demand for engaging Christian content in their language. The Thai team is using TikTok to start discussions with seekers, and the Somali team is leveraging these platforms to reach people in one of the most difficult regions for evangelism. In 2024, the Afghan Team continued its groundbreaking work in digital evangelism and discipleship, reaching thousands through innovative platforms. Their live TikTok ministry engaged 31,300 viewers, generating 57,060 direct interactions that fostered meaningful discussions on faith. Despite significant risks, 1,712 individuals committed to discipleship, and 62 attendees gathered weekly in secret meetings to grow in their faith.

3xM Academy: Supporting Digital Evangelists in the Field

Recognizing the potential of digital ministry, 3xM is equipping teams worldwide through the 3xM Academy. This initiative provides training, strategy, and technical support to ministries using social media for outreach. Through the Academy, teams learn how to create compelling video content, optimize engagement on YouTube and TikTok, and connect with seekers in meaningful ways.

With 3xM's support, these digital evangelists are able to navigate platform algorithms, produce high-quality videos, and ensure that seekers find answers in their language and cultural context. The result? A growing movement where faith conversations—once impossible due to security concerns or cultural restraints—are now happening online at an unprecedented scale.

The Future of Ministry in the 10/40 Window Is Digital

This rise in engagement isn’t just about numbers—it’s about lives being impacted. More people than ever before are hearing the gospel, asking questions, and exploring faith in safe, accessible ways.

With mobile data costs continuing to drop and video content gaining popularity, the potential for digital outreach is greater than ever. Through 3xM and the dedicated teams in Central Asia, Thailand, Somalia, and beyond, the doors to online ministry are opening wider every day.

The future of ministry in the 10/40 Window is digital—and it’s already happening.
