Helping Swadigo live again

Sawadigo is 28 years old and lives in Burkina Faso.

“I was married of as a teenager according to Muslim custom. We were just children as young as we were. Shortly after that I became pregnant. Almost exactly one year after our marriage I gave birth to twin girls Nami and Marie.

Not very long after they were born, we saw that Nami was not doing well. Not long after Marie’s health followed the downward spiral. Six months later they had both died. My husband and I were both shattered. Broken with sadness.

After mourning for a period of two years I was again pregnant. Giving birth to a baby boy Abel. He also died not long after being born. My husband then decided to marry a second wife”.
His decision broke my heart and spirit. I could no longer function. I became severely sick and could barely eat. After watching a television program on HIV and the symptoms, I asked my husband to take an HIV test with me. I was shaken by the results. I was HIV positive. My husband could not accept the news and made me leave his home. He no longer wanted to be married to me.

I felt so alone. My husband had left me and I was still grieving the loss of my children. I had no hope. Because I knew what was wrong with me, I was able to eventually get the treatment I needed.

I came across a telephone number I had once written down. It was the telephone number I had seen on TV following the program. For if viewers wanted to talk with someone about what they had seen. I called that number. The woman I spoke with told me about Jesus. That was exactly what I needed to hear. I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior there on the phone.

Since then I have been able to work through my grief and believe I will see my children in Heaven one day. I have hope again.”
